Peer-to-Peer: Nextcloud-Backup-App startet in die Beta
Nextcloud hat den Start der Betaphase seiner Peer-to-Peer-App „Nextcloud Backup“ für komprimierte und verschlüsselte Backups angekündigt, welche ab sofort für jedermann zum Testen bereitsteht. Die App ist auf eine möglichst einfache Bedienbarkeit ausgelegt und erscheint später final mit Nextcloud 23.
Nextcloud Backup kann ausprobiert werden
Wie der auch von ComputerBase bekannte Linux-Redakteur Ferdinand Thommes über die Website linuxnews.de als erstes berichtet hat, steht die erste Beta bereits im Nextcloud-Appstore zum Download bereit.
Das kann die Peer-to-Peer-App „Nextcloud Backup“:
- Store backups on another Nextcloud server. The other server can but doesn’t have to have the Backup app installed
- Store backups on external storage, like FTP, SMB, WebDAV or any other Nextcloud-supported protocol. You can also store them on a local drive, like an USB drive attached to your server!
- Do manual and/or automatic, scheduled backups in time slots you can configure.
- Store the entire Nextcloud installation, including configuration, apps and their data. Note: non-local data, including external storage, is NOT backed-up. Maybe a feature for the future!
- Do incremental or full backups in the background (short maintenance mode needed)
- Do optional (but recommended and enabled by default) compression and encryption.
- Export encryption key and other configuration information to a file or clipboard for safe-keeping.
- Give notifications in the Activities app about backup activity.
- Exclude folders from backup if you add a .nobackup file in the folder.
- Be controlled by the command line to search for and restore single files, initiate full restore, or list and create backups.

Nextcloud Backup ermöglicht es Anwendern, regelmäßig komprimierte und verschlüsselte Backups der eigenen Daten auf dem eigenen Nextcloud-Server zu sichern. Die Daten werden mittels FTP, SMB, WebDAV oder einem anderen von Nextcloud unterstützten Protokoll auf den Server übertragen. Die App ist insbesondere für Privatanwender konzipiert, wie Nextcloud betont.

Our new backup app provides an incredibly easy way to ensure that even in the worst case like total loss of a server, data is secure on the instance of a friend or family member, while of course preserving privacy through encryption.

Der Snapshot des zu speichernden Backups wird im Hintergrund komprimiert und anschließend in 100 Megabyte große Fragmente aufgeteilt und verschlüsselt. Im letzten Schritt werden alle Bestandteile des Backups an den Nextcloud-Server übertragen.
Release noch in diesem Jahr mit Nextcloud 23
Die Peer-to-Peer-App für Nextcloud soll noch im Laufe dieses Jahres gemeinsam mit der finalen Version von Nextcloud 23 erscheinen. Wie die Nextcloud GmbH anmerkt, kann die Peer-to-Peer-App ausschließlich mit der aktuellen Nextcloud 23 Beta 1 ausprobiert werden. Wie Nextcloud funktioniert demonstriert das Stuttgarter Unternehmen mit der Vorstellung von Nextcloud 22.
