ATi veröffentlicht „Catalyst 6.1“-Treiber-Paket
ATi hat heute, passend zum erschienenen Benchmark „3DMark06“ von Futuremark, ein neues Treiber-Paket veröffentlicht. Der Name des ersten ATi-Treibers in diesem Jahr lautet, wie zu erwarten, Catalyst 6.1. Der Treiber ist ein so genannter „maintenance driver“, sprich die Änderungen konzentrieren sich großenteils auf das Bugfixing.
Unter anderem sind Probleme mit diversen Spielen wie BattleField 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest II, Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft und anderen behoben worden. Voraussetzung für die Installation des Catalyst Control Center ist ein installiertes Microsoft .NET Framework. Der Catalyst 6.1 ist für Windows XP, Windows XP x64, Windows MCE sowie Windows 2000 verfügbar.

- Viewing TV for several hours under Windows XP Media Center
Edition on a system containing either an ATI Radeon(r) X1300 or an ATI
Radeon(r) X1800 no longer results in an extraordinary long delay in the
shut down and no longer results in Windows XP MCE TV failing to restart.

Erstmals und ab jetzt auf Dauer planen wir direkt zur Veröffentlichung eines neuen Treiber einige Benchmarks durchzuführen, um einen ersten Eindruck von der Geschwindigkeit zu erhalten. Als Testsystem dient ein AMD Athlon 64 3800+, 1.024 MByte DDR400-RAM von Corsair, das MSI K8N Diamond sowie eine Radeon X1800 XT von HIS.
Wie zu erwarten war, stagnierte die Geschwindigkeit auf dem Niveau des Catalyst 5.13. Weder der heute erschienene der 3DMark06, noch F.E.A.R. oder Half-Life 2: Lost Coast konnten von der neuen Treiber-Version profitieren.
