Die Voodoo 5 passt nicht auf Pentium 4 Boards

Wie Ace's Hardware berichtet, ist es offenbar nicht möglich, die 3dfx Voodoo 5 AGP auf ein Pentium 4 Motherboard zu stecken. Dieses Problem konnte bereits auf verschiedenen Motherboards beobachtet werden.

Die Ursache hierfür liegt in der Bauform der Voodoo 5. Der auf allen Pentium 4 Motherboards verwendete i850 Chipsatz unterstützt AGP 4x Pro und verlangt nach Intel Spezifikation über Pin 42-45 eine Aussparung. Die Voodoo 5 hat diese jedoch lediglich über Pin 22-25, wie es von der AGP 2x Spezifikation (3.3v I/O) vorgeschrieben wird. Während andere Grafikkartenhersteller ihre AGP 4x Grafikkarten mit zwei Aussparungen nach AGP 2x und AGP 4x Spezifikation (1.5v I/O und 3.3v I/O) ausgestattet haben, hat man bei 3dfx bislang darauf verzichtet, wodurch schon ein Einstecken einer Voodoo 5 in ein Pentium 4 unmöglich wird. 3dfx selber gibt dazu folgendes Statement ab:

They are fully compatible with all AMD and Intel processors, including Intel's new Pentium 4. However, our current boards are not compatible with AGP 1.5 Volt ONLY connectors. This connector provides 1.5 Volt signaling to the socket and is physically keyed differently to prevent other AGP boards that required 3.3 Volt signaling from being plugged into the AGP 1.5 Volt only sockets. Unfortunately, the core logic chip for Intel's Pentium 4 does not support 3.3 Volt signaling on the AGP Bus.
