Neues AMI-Bios mit TCPA-Support
Langsam aber sicher nähern wir uns Mainboards mit TCPA-Support. Wie von BIOS-Hersteller American Megatrends (AMI) zu hören ist, hat man ein Erweiterungsmodul für das AMIBIOS8 fertig, das damit ausgestattete Computer TCPA-tauglich macht.
Obwohl die TCPA, die derzeit aus 180 Mitgliedern besteht, behauptet TCPA sei nur für professionelle Computer und Geschäfts-Anwendungen gedacht, fürchten doch Kritiker, das damit mehr möglich sein wird. Etwa die Kontrolle und Entmündigung der Anwender. Ein weitere Knackpunkt ist, das damit mögliche DMI, das den Kopierschutz auf Hardwarebasis ermöglicht. Dieses Erweiterungsmodul integriert ein Trusted Plattform Module (TPM) in Form eines Krypto-Chips in einen Flash-Speicher. Damit soll dann die PC-Hardware geprüft werden. Außerdem unterstützt das neue AMIBIOS8 nun auch den kommenden AMD Athlon-64 und Opteron-Prozessor. Aber nicht nur American Megatrends arbeitet an TCPA. So auch BIOS-Hersteller Phoenix sowie verschiedene Linux-Entwickler. IBM indes verkauft bereits Notebooks, die mit TCPA-konformen TPM ausgestattet sind.
