News von nVidia, ATi, Microsoft, Intel, AMD und Co

Auch heute haben wir uns wieder dazu entschlossen, euch einige Nachrichten aus der Welt des Computers gebündelt zu präsentieren. Dabei geht es sowohl um ein Overclocking-Tool von nVidia für den nForce2 als auch um ATis Radeon 9600 PRO, Microsoft, Intel, Windows XP 64-bit für den Opteron und Palm OS 6.

nVidia bringt Overclocking-Tool für nForce2:
"Der Grafikkarten und Chipsatz-Hersteller nVidia wird demnächst ein Utility herausbringen, welches es erlaubt, nForce2 Mainboards zu übertakten und an diversen Stellen zu tunen. So wird die Software es ermöglichen, sowohl den Frontsidebus, die den AGP Takt sowie die Spannung für den Prozessor zu verändern." Mehr bei Hardtecs4U und der PC Games.

Virtuelle Server von Microsoft:
"Die Nachricht, dass Microsoft die Technik des Virtual PC von Connectix kauft, kam im Februar überraschend. Zunächst hieß es, es bliebe für die nächsten sechs Monate alles beim Alten. Connectix verkaufe den Virtual PC weiterhin. [...] Nach Ablauf der Sechsmonatsfrist würden die Produkte ins Microsoft-Programm integriert, hieß es im Februar. Die seinerzeit in Aussicht gestellte Vorabfassung der Server-Version des Virtual PC, an der schon Connectix arbeitete, hat Microsoft nun offiziell angekündigt. Vorerst soll es nur eine Vor-Betaversion sein, die Microsoft an interessierte Kunden herausgeben will." Mehr bei Heise.de.

PalmSource: Palm OS 6 kommt noch in diesem Jahr:
"Auf der PalmSource-Konferenz in San Mateo eröffnete der CEO der gleichnamigen Palm-OS-Entwicklerschmiede David Nagel, dass mit der kommenden Version des PDA-Betriebssystems noch in diesem Jahr zu rechnen sei. Palm OS 6 wurde nach seiner Aussage von Grund auf neu programmiert und soll vor allem durch Sicherheits-Features und Unterstützung drahtloser Netzwerke glänzen." Mehr bei Heise.de.

Windows XP 64-bit for Opteron/Itanic makes WinHEC showing:
"Microsoft is showing 64-bit Windows XP for both the Intel Itanium and Opteron platforms. The Opteron version has rapidly moved on from build 3754 at this year's CeBIT to Build 3790 at WinHEC, and the AMD chip is soldiering bravely away rendering R2D2 from Star Wars over at this page." Intel readies Xeon price attack on AMD Opterons:
"Recent roadmaps seen by the Inquirer in the Concubine show that the firm is set to reduce prices on a range of its Xeon server/workstation chips. [...] The next high end Xeon will probably have a special name but it's essentially a 3.06GHz processor with 1MB of cache, showing that Intel can do this kind of microprocessor if it tries hard enough."
