ATi veröffentlicht Catalyst 6.3
Dem monatlichen Rhythmus entsprechend hat ATi in dieser Woche die dritte Version des Catalyst-Treibers in diesem Jahr veröffentlicht. Neben den obligatorischen Bug-Fixes ist diese Version allerdings zusätzlich noch mit neuen Features bedacht worden.
Der „Overlay Theater Mode“ wurde so überarbeitet, dass von nun an höhere Auflösungen als auf dem Desktop wiedergegeben werden können. Mit dem „Avivo Video Konverter“ sollen Videoformate schnell und einfach in ein anderes umgewandelt werden können. Zu den unterstützten Formaten zählen unter anderem MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, WMA und H.264/AVC. Weitere Informationen hält die Webseite von ATi bereit.
Neben Bug-Fixes in Spielen wie Battlefield 2, Serious Sam 2, Far Cry, Need for Speed: Most Wanted oder Quake 4 gab es auch einige Verbesserung auf der Performanceseite. So soll Call of Duty 2 auf der aktuellen High-End-Generation der X1800- und X1900-Serie zwischen fünf und zehn Prozent zugelegen und auch die Ergebnisse der Benchmark-Software 3DMark05 sollen minimal besser ausfallen. Bei den von uns getesteten Titeln konnte keine allzu große Leistungszunahme verzeichnet werden. Der 3DMark06 und F.E.A.R stagnierten, Age of Empires III und Half-Life 2 – Lost Coast konnten leicht zu legen. Als Auflösung verwendeten wir 1.280 x 1.024 mit vierfachen Anti-Aliasing sowie sechzehnfacher anisotroper Filterung. Das Testsystem bestand aus einem AMD Athlon 64 3700+, 1.024 MByte DDR-400-Arbeitsspeicher und einer Radeon X1900 XTX von HIS, weitere Details findet der interessierte Leser hier.
