Nachdem das Open Source-Mediacenter Kodi (ehemals XBMC) mit der aktuellen Version 18.9 („Leia“) ein letztes Update erhalten hat, ist jetzt auch die Alpha 3 der neuen Ausgabe Kodi 19.x („Matrix“) verfügbar. Im Anschluss an den letzten Alphatest wollen die Entwickler die Betaphase starten und die freie Software serienreif machen.

Das letzte Update für Kodi 18 („Leia“) hat das Mediencenter, das von Anwendern bevorzugt auf Einplatinencomputern wie dem Raspberry Pi 4 eingesetzt wird, noch einmal um diverse Fehler bereinigt, da die Version 19 zwar „fertig“, zurzeit aber eben noch nicht „fertig genug“ sei und daher die Version 18.9 nötig machte. Mit der Alpha 3, der letzten Alpha-Version, soll die Entwicklung aber jetzt in die heiße Phase übergehen.
Versprechungen möchten die Entwickler aber keine mehr machen, Matrix 19 hätte laut ursprünglicher Roadmap bereits längst erscheinen sollen.

Mit dem Wechsel von Kodi 19 Alpha 2 auf Alpha 3 gehen folgende Änderungen einher, die das Projekt auch in den offiziellen Release Notes zusammengefasst hat:
Music Library
Small fixes to album duration for music in unusual folder layouts, and triggering rescraping of a single artist or album.
Music Videos
Fetch related album and artist info (including art, bio, review etc) from the music library where appropriate
Display all music videos for an artist, not just the ones related to an album when navigating by artist
Searching from the info dialog for an artist now includes all of related library albums as well as any videos
Possibility to use .nfo files so that the artist list can now show all performers from music videos, not just the main artist
Info dialogs will display data from the music library where there's a corresponding artist and/or album
Fix the same director search for music videos
Playback
Correct the colour mapping of HLG HDR playback in SDR mode on Windows 10
Add HLG HDR playback as HDR10 on Windows 10 (as Windows does not support passthrough of HLG)
Added support for more OpenGL bicubic scalers
