Oracle VirtualBox 6.1.28: Gastsystem nutzt für Windows 11 das TPM des Hostsystems

Die Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox gestattet Gastsystemen mit Windows 11 jetzt den Zugriff auf das Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 des Hostsystems mittels Passthrough. Bereits im August erstmals im Lastenheft der Software zu finden, realisiert die neueste Version 6.1.28 jetzt den „Windows 11 Gast Support“.

TPM 2.0 mittels Passthrough auf Gastsystemen

Nachdem die Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds zuvor ohne Probleme als VM in VirtualBox ausprobiert werden konnten, verlangte das finale Release zwingend nach TPM 2.0 und war damit – ohne offiziellen oder inoffiziellen Workaround – als Kandidat für ein Gastsystem erst einmal raus. Bereits im August schrieben sich die Entwickler von Oracle daher eine entsprechende Lösung in ihr Lastenheft und entwickelten fortan einen Treiber, der das TPM 2.0 per Passthrough vom Hostsystem an das Gastsystem „durchschleifen“ sollte. VirtualBox 6.1.28 erhält mit dem „Windows 11 Gast Support“ jetzt einen entsprechenden Treiber, der den Passthrough von TPM 2.0 vom Hostsystem an das Gastsystem ermöglicht, und wie die Release Notes verraten, noch zahlreiche weitere Fehlerkorrekturen und Optimierungen spendiert.

Unter anderem werden auch erstmals die freien Betriebssystemkernel Linux 5.14 und Linux 5.15 und das neue Enterprise-Betriebssystem Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.5 unterstützt.
