Das Open Source Media Center („OSMC“) – vormals Raspbmc –, das insbesondere für Einplatinencomputer der Serie Raspberry Pi konzipiert worden ist, kombiniert in der neuesten Version 2021.11 das freie Mediencenter Kodi 19.3 („Matrix“) sowie ein sogenanntes Just Enough Operating System („JeOS“) auf Basis von Debian.

Mediacenter für Einplatinencomputer

OSMC geht damit einen ähnlichen Weg wie LibreELEC 10.0.1, eine Abspaltung des 2017 eingestellten OpenELEC, und bringt die freie Mediaplayer-Software Kodi auf Einplatinencomputer und Mini-PCs, wie den Raspberry Pi 4.

OSMC basiert auf der aktuellen Ausgabe von Raspberry Pi OS – vormals Raspbian –, die ihrerseits Debian 11 („Bullseye“) und den Betriebssystem-Kernel Linux 5.10 LTS nutzt. Das Betriebssystem ist dabei besonders ressourcensparend ausgelegt. Dennoch unterstützt OSMC diverse Kodierungsformate, wie WMV, VC-1 und H264 sowie H265 mit HEVC und 10-Bit HEVC, und kann mit den Containerformaten MKV, MP4, MOV, TS und M2TS umgehen. Außerdem werden HDR10 und HDR10+ für entsprechendes Material mit Hochkontrastbildern sowie einem stark erweiterten Dynamikbereich unterstützt.

This update also features Kodi v19.3 which has a number of bug fixes. One of the more significant changes in Kodi v19.3 includes a fix which improves the playback of videos which have high-bitrate TrueHD tracks. This would previously result in drop-outs when playing back some titles with HD audio passthrough enabled.

  • Fixed an issue which may result in the display output being set to 1080i on Vero 4K / 4K + when starting up
  • Fixed an issue which prevented newer versions of the Widevine library from working on OSMC
