Das freie Bildbearbeitungsprogramm Pinta für Windows, macOS und Linux wechselt in der Version 2.0 auf das quelloffene GUI-Toolkit GTK+ 3 sowie die Softwareplattform .NET 6 von Microsoft und kann jetzt besser mit HiDPI-Anzeigen umgehen. Als eine Art „Kopie“ von Paint.NET liegt der Umfang von Pinta zwischen Paint und GIMP.
Klon von Paint.NET auf neuer Basis
Bestandteile des Quellcodes, speziell die für Bildanpassungen und Filter, stammen von Paint.NET, ansonsten ist Pinta auf Basis der typsicheren objektorientierten Programmiersprache C# und der Grafikbibliothek Cairo noch leichtgewichtiger und simpler konzipiert worden.
Die offiziellen Release Notes von Pinta 2.0 listen neben dem Wechsel auf GTK 3+, wobei GTK in der Version 3.24.21 oder höher vorausgesetzt wird, und .NET 6 zudem zahlreiche Fehlerkorrekturen und Optimierungen auf. Auch an der Leistung der diversen Werkzeuge haben die Entwickler gearbeitet.

Ported to GTK3 and .NET 6
Many changes to the appearance of standard GTK widgets and dialogs (e.g. the color picker and file dialogs). GTK3 themes should also now be supported.
Improved support for high-DPI displays.
The platform-native file dialogs are now used (#1909807, #1909664).
A GTK version of 3.24.21 or higher is recommended. Earlier versions have a bug with changing the file filter in the Save As dialog (#1909807).
On macOS, the menu now appears in the global menu bar instead of the application window.
Changed the text tool to use the standard GTK font chooser widget (#1311873, #1866653, #890589)
Changed several tools to use spin buttons rather than editable combo boxes for e.g. selecting brush sizes (#1186516).
The Open Recent menu item was deprecated in GTK3 and has been removed, but similar functionality is available in the file dialog’s Recent section.
Support for add-ins has been removed, but may return in a future release (#1918039).
The Windows and macOS installers now bundle all necessary dependencies. Separately installing GTK and .NET / Mono is no longer required.

Paint.NET erhält mit dem Update auf die neue Version 4.3.6 einen Hotfix, der einen Fehler in der Grafikanwendung korrigiert.

This is a hotfix for a crash in the box filter rendering kernel, which is used to generate mip-maps for the canvas when zoomed out.
Fixed a stack overflow in the box filter rendering kernel that could cause hangs or crashes when the zoom level was around 1/8th (12.5%) or 1/32nd (3.125%) for particular image sizes e.g. ((N x 2048) + 16)).
