GIMP für M1 und M2: Grafikprogramm läuft jetzt auch nativ auf Apple Silicon

Das Open-Source-Grafikprogramm GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), das gemeinhin als freie Alternative zu Adobe Photoshop angesehen wird, läuft jetzt auch nativ auf den Arm64-Prozessoren M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max und M1 Ultra sowie M2 von Apple Silicon. Die Version 2.10.32 ist als AArch64-Build erschienen.

GIMP läuft ohne Emulationsschicht auf Apple Silicon

Die macOS-Version war zuvor auf die x86-Architektur und Core-Prozessoren von Intel beschränkt. Wie die Entwickler in den offiziellen Release Notes bekanntgegeben haben, werden zukünftige Versionen der pixelbasierten Bildbearbeitungssoftware neben Windows und Linux jeweils auch für macOS auf x86 mit Intel-CPU und M-SoC von Apple Silicon erscheinen.

Auch die Leistung des Grafikprogramms profitiert davon, dass jetzt auf den Einsatz einer x86-64-Binär-Übersetzung mittels der Emulations- und Kompatibilitätsschicht Rosetta 2 verzichtet werden kann.

• It is a revision package for GIMP 2.10.32, already released a few months ago, re-built with our new MacPorts-based infrastructure on both x86_64 (“macOS on Intel” architecture) and AArch64 (“macOS on Apple Silicon”).
• Note that we provide 2 DMG packages now, one for each architecture, not a single universal package. The website will try and detect which architecture you are on, but if it fails to detect properly (detection is not as easy on some browsers), be careful to choose the version for the correct hardware (“for Intel” or “for Apple Silicon“).

Zusätzlich wurden im überarbeiteten Softwarepaket die Systemabhängigkeiten aktualisiert, insbesondere babl und GEGL. Das bedeutet, dass Sie auch für macOS auf Intel die aktuelle Korrektur des Race-Condition-Bugs erhalten. Zuvor konnte es unter macOS unter Umständen zu Abstürzen von GIMP kommen, was durch das Revisions- und Bugfix-Update behoben wurde.
