Neuer Großkunde: Intel Foundry fertigt Microsofts Chip in Intel 18A

Microsoft verkündete durch CEO Satya Nadella im Rahmen von Intels Foundry-Event, dass kommende Chips in Intel 18A gefertigt werden. Dabei nennt Intel auch erstmals eine Zahl: Mit den Fertigungen sowie den Packaging-Möglichkeiten hat Intel Foundry bereits Kunden für Produkte im Wert von 15 Milliarden US-Dollar eingesammelt.

Auf welches Produkt Microsoft dabei zielt, ist nicht genau definiert. Sehr wahrscheinlich wird ein AI-Beschleuniger darunter sein. Im November des letzten Jahres hatte Microsoft zwei neue Custom-Chips für die eigene Cloud vorgestellt.
