ATi veröffentlicht Catalyst 6.5
Dem monatlichen Rhythmus entsprechend hat ATi auch in diesem Monat eine neue Version des Catalyst-Treibers vorgestellt. Dieser kommt mit zusätzlichen Features für den „Overlay Theater Mode“ daher und von nun an können Karten ab der Radeon-9500-Serie und aufwärts adaptives Anti-Aliasing darstellen.
Adaptives Anti-Aliasing war bislang offiziell der X1000-Serie vorbehalten, jedoch wurden bereits zum Launch der Serie im vergangenen Oktober Mittel und Wege diskutiert, wie adaptives Anti-Aliasing auch auf der alten Generation aktiviert werden kann.
Neben den neuen Features wurde wie üblich bei einigen Programmen an der Performance-Schraube gedreht und diverse Bugs beseitigt. So sollen X1600- und X1300-Karten in einer CrossFire-Konfiguration bei den Titeln Unreal Tournament 2004 und Splinter Cell rund 20 Prozent zulegen. Fehler behoben wurden bei den Benchmark-Applikationen 3DMark05 und Aquamark 3, im Bereich der Spiele profitieren Far Cry und Doom 3. Alle weiteren Ausbesserungen sind in den Release-Notes aufgeführt:

Neben den Treibern für Windows XP hat ATi ebenfalls einen neuen Beta-Treiber für die Beta 2 von Windows Vista (Build 5382) veröffentlicht. So ist es nun beispielsweise möglich, den Beta-Treiber auch für X1300- oder X1600-Karten zu installieren, ohne einen schwarzen Bildschirm zu erhalten.
