Sorry for writing in english, i think i could write the same in german but im not so sure about understanding ur replies...
Well, i dont know if iv chosen the right forum. I needed very popular one and this seems to be quite good, so i hope to get a lot of replies.

Im from poland. I take part in some contest, its about our (polish) attitude to germans. I had a lot of disscussions about it with my friends and i learned that some of them dont like u bcs U dont like us. Is it truth? Whats UR attitude to poles? Who r we for u?
I hope this topic will interest u

I'm interested in this Topic, but why did you chose a Computer Forum?

however... I have no Problems with Polish, but i think, everybody is different... so it's allways the same Story. There are some who don't like us, and there are some, who don't like you ;)

We just had some Students from Poland in our class, and they were very funny :D Recently, they had to leave, because there was an accident ore smth. like that @ home in Poland.

All in all it's my oppinion that you shouldn't be scared of meeting german People ;) There are some crazy, but which country doesn't have those ;D

With best wishes

Benjamin

Hello, I had been for a concerttour with our orchestra to Poland twice. Both times polish people were very friendly and helpful. I myself like the polish. The people are not so uptight like in Germany, but are also bound to traditions. So i have to say: Polish people are absolutely OK in every single aspect.

Sry that i wasn´t able to tell you who i think you are, cause i know, that you´re nice people...

I chose this forum coz its popular and...how would u find german forum about...germany? ;)

My attitude to germans is really positive, i have friends in germany so i cant hate u (I just dont like ur language but its not ur fault). I knew that ppl in poland dont like germans bcs of history, but i really didnt know they think of u things like this:

"Germans despise poles
The hate us as they did and vice versa
The one thing theyr afraid of is strength and it didnt change
They have a huge respect to russians
Even if they speak polish its a dishonour for them to tell anything in it
Poles r dogs for them and they show it all the time, not secretively but impertinently straight to face"

That told the person who lives near germany...but i really cant believe him. Im sorry for him...

- most Germans don't speak Polish at all as it is not teached in school
- i guess most Germans don't think much of Poland and it's people as we don't have any intense relations (trade, tourism)
- Mr. Malysz (spelled correct?) is quite popular
- quite unpopular are those twins
- this russian thing again..."the person" can remember '39? (he doesn't need to be afraid, the next German-Russian-connection bypasses Poland through the Baltic Sea ;))

PS: i forgot the here-called "Krakauer", i mean the original from Krakau (the German name that is, you see, i dont know the Polish name...), these taste really good...

Every person is different - and there will ever be people that don´t like (or hate) other Nationalities. So you can´t relay the mind of a few people for the whole country ;)

I think there are other nations that a lot of Germans "hate" more than the polish.

Respect to russians? Yes. But not more or less than to any other person...

Why he think that it is a dishonor to speak polish for us? Why we don´t do it? Thats not because we want to do... that´s justt because we can´t do :p

I´ve got polish, russian and even turkish friends - a they are no worst friends than the german ones~

(Hope my english is not so bad as I think :D)

Hello

I have no problems with Poland

And i think that Germany do a lot for Poland

Germany forces the process to admission Poland in the EU

But I was a little bit surprised about the anti German and anti EU foreign policy from the Kaczyński Brothers and the pro Bush politics

or the Problems with the BdV and Mrs Erika Steinbach

I think that the people in Poland belive that the Germans want back there Houses or properties

But this is and big Mistake belive me nobody in Germany wants back the old Border from 1945

The people from the BdV only want that injustice of there dispossession was forgotten

Thank u for ur replies, they will help me in discussion with my friends. It seems that WE have hostile attitude to u and its wrong. I think the person whose words i quoted has personal problem with germans (i dont know, maybe he met just few of u and judge u all according to them?)

Now im going to write this contest and say something about this negative polish-german attitude

Greetings to u all :)

I'm not from Germany but I know enough problems between Germans and Polish (the last sad example is the FIFA EM 2008 in Austria) about the history during and after the Second World War.

That's a good way to clear those relation problems between Germany and Poland (even the historically relations). :)

The main problem is that most german people know nothing about polish people, politics and so on ... most things I hear are stupid prejudices belonging to the middle ages. =/
At the given time I´m living room to room with a polish guy and he rocks hard and tough. ;) So do his friends. You see, nothing bad to say about people from your country from my side. Maybe it´s because I´m used to dealing with people from all continents. In my opinion most people are just afraid of strangers, but they would never admit. This kind of behaviour isn´t very modern and on top of things, you know ... ;)

I was in Poland 8 years ago (school trip when I was 19). My experiences:
  • Most of the people are nice. But I met many poor and bad educated people.
  • Even in huge malls it's easier to get bad cover band CDs than original CDs
  • Many young people still dislike Germans. Our host adviced us not to go out at night (especially not to visit Discos)
  • Some people wanted to fool us when they noticed we are from Germany (and "rich"): For example, on day we wanted to rent a pedal boat. The price was, lets say, 1 EUR for 1 hour. When the man noticed we are from Germany he increased the price to 8 EUR for 1 hour. We didn't rent the boat then and it started raining (glad he wanted to fool us, otherwise we would have rented a boat in the rain...)
  • Old people still care much about World War 2. For example, once we visited a fisherman and he told us the story of his family. He said they were living in his house for 800 years. I said thats nice and suddenly he got angry and said until World War 2 this was common and the Germans destroyed everything
  • While travelling back to Germany (by train) we met some soldiers from Poland. This was pretty cool because they had alcoholics and we music => great party
4 years ago (during University) I lived with somebody from Poland in the same flat.
  • He was against Polands entry in the European Union because he said most of the politicians are corrupt
  • He said fraud and corruption are pretty common in the society
  • Maybe he didn't like Poland because he moved to Germany?
Personally I don't have a problem with Poland. I like them more than Turkey. What I dislike:
  • Polish politicians still refuse to pay compensations to displaced persons, they even attack persons like Erika Steinbach very rude
  • Polish politicians still refuse to investigate the persecution of Jews in Poland before and during World War II
I met somebody from the US who lived in Germany and had Polish friends (in Germany). He said they don't like the Germans because they think they want to fool them and dislike them. This is pretty much the same prejudice most Germans have towards Polish people.

I think Poland and Germany could develope the same friendship like Germany and France. Most of the problems are caused by prejudices which could be avoided if we talk more.

To my mind it's bullshit to substitute opinions on the relationship between people from different countries based on there nationality.

Every country for sure has its own culture. In Europe, every culture is irrefutable linked with other cultures. Today we are dominated by an American way of life, which is also a result of a mixture of different cultures. Life is complex, but I've got my own simple view on it:

In every country in the world there are idiots and there is for sure a political, economical and medial influenced sight on all things. If it's popular to hate or love another country, you'll be influenced in this way. Group dynamics, for many it seems to be hard to resist.

You can like or hate someone or you don't care for someone. For me this has nothing to do with skin colour, ethnic group or nationality.

I know about ten different people from Poland and as far as I know them, I think they are quite nice people. Well, I know some nice people from Germany, too. But I also know some German idiots, and that simply because I know more Germans than people from other countries. If I knew as many Polish people as i know Germans, I'm sure I'd find some Polish idiots, too. :D

For me only the individual person has an importance. Sadly many individuals follow the leadership of airheads, maybe because they don't want to think, can't think or they have a selfish, lazy and/or greedy behaviour.

The only relevant thing about Poland I can say is, that Poland has in some parts a very beautiful natural landscape and a tasty juniper sausage. :)

Hi I have a polish background (I moved 1991 to Germany), but my feelings about Poland are not the best. I can say nothing about the life and the people there, but the political picture of Poland here in germany is not the best.
Everytime Poland is the headlines, it is allways a mixture of bad news and a NAZI insinuation against the german.
I´m not a big fan of Steinbach, but pictures of Steinbach as a SS officer and the hole agitation agaist this person in the polish press is not the best publicity for Poland.

So my conclusion is, only few people dislike the poles but many have a big problem with your goverment and the polish press.

I think that's exactly the point. The majority of the Germans have no personal contact to Polish people. They do not know any Polish and all they hear and know about Poland are the news in the TV and newspaper. That applies to me and all my friends and relatives.
And now the problem is that the news about Poland are recently rather bad. What I can remember from the last months: Inhibiting the European Union, stubborn behaviour related to the EU, too strong interference in German affairs, Nazi-insinuations and so on and so forth. I do not know any Polish, so I cannot say anything about the Polish itself. My picture of Poland is built only by the news. And for the simple reason that the news are rather bad, my picture of Poland is recently rather bad. But that is no adjudication about the people who live there!

i have a polish background too, and my picuture of poland is not the best. i know from many polish, that they hate germans, because they think, that germans are all very rich. furthermore i know some people who receive unemployment benefit and child benefits from germany and are registered here, although they don't work or live in germany. They only worked once as a daywage men in germany.

an other reason for the bad relationship is, that the polish politicians make a "contra-germany-campaign". (not all, but for example the two "funny" twin brohters)

All we hear in the news about poland are things like poland wanting more reperation from germany and subsidies from the eu, poland is against our politicians (i think of the carricature of angela merkel), etc. this is what forms the negative portrait of poland in germany.

I don't know why, but i think a big amount of polish people don't like germans.

sorry for my bad english^^

greetings

I have no problem with poland. Contrary my roots are in poland. (Schlesien, at this time germany). My grandmother was a german and has married a polish after the war and short before she was banished. I know there are many old people in germany who hate the polish people. This is based on the historic events of the world war. The banishment of germans after the war was for many people a mortification. Also for my grandmother who has lost her land and property. Anyway she was married with a polish for 40 years and they don't hate polish people. Germany has started this war and do terrible things to polish people, so it's at last our fault.

But, we have currently some problems with crime in border regions of germany/poland. Theft and smuggling are two of this problems. During my business trips I' m often in Frankfurt/Oder. Some people I know in Frankfurt have many problems with poland.
