ATI HD3870 and Nvidia 8800GT Compatibility Poll
Hi all,
Just a quick poll to see how easy the new graphics cards were to install. Ideally, I would like to differentiate the poll by motherboard or chipset, but that'll be too difficult.
Instead, if you had some problems, and *especially if you solved some problems*, then please post a brief description here.
Example: See 8800GT compatibility issue with the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA here, which was blamed on poor PCI-E 2.0 compatibility, and which was fixed with a GPU BIOS update setting the GPU to PCI-E 1.0 mode:

Personally, my HD3870 boots just fine in my ASRock 775Dual-VSTA without any BIOS updates , but my power supply, rated 18A on the 12V rail, drops to 11.0V under full load, and I have texture corruption on the screen. In my case, I guess I need to update the PSU before the HD3870 can work. By the way, I know that the 775Dual-VSTA is not ideal for high end graphics, but the board, with its various dual compatibilities, really smoothed out my transition to newer gear: First from good DDR to even better DDR2, then from a really good AGP card to an even better PCI-E card. Best of alll, the board was always stable. So yes, I'll get a new board soon, but it did its job very well up to now.
So this is an informal poll about how many problems there are installing either of these cards.
