Ubuntu 16.04 hängt sich beim Start auf, Default Modus o.ä. funktioniert nicht.
PC läuft jetzt auf dem parallel installierten Win 7, zweiten PC habe ich nicht.

Meine Daten sind auf einer zweiten HDD und normal würde ich jetzt einfach formatieren und neu installieren, aber meine E Mail Daten liegen auf der Ubuntu Partition und die würde ich ungerne verlieren.

Mit Win Explorer finde ich nichts auf der Ubuntu Partition, mit Ubuntu von der Live CD gestartet auch nicht.

In welcher Form liegen sie denn da? Von welchem Programm?
 
Ein paar Eckdaten wären toll... mit welcher Software / Programm rufst du denn die E-Mails von deinem Anbieter (Privat, Telekom, GMX etc.) ab? Wenn es z.B. GMX wäre, hast du dich mal auf gmx.net angemeldet und geschaut ob die Mails noch da sind? Dann wird vermutlich via IMAP abgerufen... dann sollten eigentlich alle E-Mails noch auf dem Server liegen.

Ausnahme sind E-Mails die du durch irgend etwas bestimmtes doch lokal abgelegt hast etc.
 
Falls es um einen lokalen Client geht:
Backup vom Homeverzeichnis machen.
Beim Thunderbird liegt die Konfiguration im Ordner /home/deinnutzername/.thunderbird
(Achtung, ist ein versteckter Ordner)

Danach könntest du vielleicht mal auf Ubutu 18.04 upgraden (hier wohl besser durch ne Neuinstallation) und/oder uns mehr über deinen Rechner erzählen.
Tipp für die Zukunft: /home nicht auf die Sys-Partition legen.

Gute Frage, Mails rufe ich vom pop3 Server ab und speichere auf dem PC.
Ehrlich gesagt, wie das online geht weiß ich nicht, habe ich nie versucht.

Ich finde gar nichts von der alten Ubuntu Partition, auch nichts verstecktes.

Manuelle Datenträgereinteilung, Partition für /home erstellen (Ext4) und für diese auch /home als Mountpoint angeben. Google das einfach mal.
 
Im Moment läuft Ubuntu 14.04, mit dem Dateimanager auch keine Thunderbird Daten zu finden.

/home ist selbsverständlich eingerichtet, sonst läuft die Installation gar nicht. Nutze ich aber nicht, speichere alles auf zweiter HDD. Außer den Mails.

daß die Daten unter
/home/deinnutzername/.thunderbird
liegen weiß ich, gelegentlich auch eine Sicherungskopie gespeichert, zuletzt Dez 2018 (ja, ich weiß...)
Aber wenn ich den PC unter Win oder wie jetzt Ubuntu 14.04 starte, ist dieser Ordner nicht auffindbar.

Oh, konnte mich gerade bei Freenet einloggen, ein paar Mails sind tatsächlich noch da.

Hast du unter dem Live-Ubuntu auch die entsprechende HDD gemountet? Dabei auch mal schauen was "dmesg" ausgibt, evtl. hat deine HDD einen Schaden, was auch das klemmende System erklären würde.
Poste mal die Ausgabe von "sudo fdisk -l", das listet alle verfügbaren Platten und ihre Partitionen.

Recovery läuft bis zum Wiederherstellungsmenue, Status 'nur lesen' und nimmt keine Befehle an.

Ups, habe ich nicht.
Aber jetzt läuft er ja gerade mit 14.04 (aus der Bootauswahl), da muß die Paltte ja gemountet sein und im /home ist nichts.

Dmesg sieht erstmal unauffällig aus, zumindest wenn man mal nach "sdb" durch'grep't. Ich vermute mal dass deine User-Daten auf der 1TB Platte liegen? Und dort dann sicherlich in der einzigsten relevanten Linux-Partition sdb6. Diese ist laut dmesg bereits gemountet worden. Schau daher mal mit "mount|grep sdb6" wo diese eingehängt ist.

P.s.: Kann man solche längeren Sachen auch als Spoiler hier im Forum einbinden? Ist schon sehr länglich ;)
