Many see Raven Ridge mobile processors as uncompetitive. I dont accept that. Huawei matebook proved that.
In stock form, it is superior to stock intel in the major segment of mobile computing.
The mobile debate gets hijacked by those who confuse segments. They want desktop power they can carry and use all day. These are contradictory to mobile.
Wise folks know they must compromise when they roam (or pay dearly for sub-optimal), but they can not compromise on modern graphics. Intel can not provide this w / oa DGPU.
Ice lake does not rescue them - more intel nonsense.
Stock Raven Ridge best meets the real: budget / gpu & cpu power / mass balanced needs of the real mainstream mobile segment.
AMD have only had modest success Because Intel's moats have worked well in this segment.
AMD's least strong mobile features have been power consumption and cpu performance, both ~ solved by Zen2 & 7nm.
So the new 7nm APU takes them from strongly competitive with marketing problems, to devastatingly competitive & a very fresh attitude by mobile OEMs to AMD ... and a strong OEM disillusionment with intel.
Just as zen2 has finally demolished the inertia of OEMs in desktop/workstation/servers, I think the new apu will bring lift off in laptops.
