It is important to note that the DirectStorage API is not the same as the Microsoft Xbox Series X Velocity architecture. Most of all, this could be simply explained by providing half of the new generation of data management. Obviously an important part, so good news is that it comes with a PC, it’s more than anything, but wasting memory usage doesn’t help, in fact, it just makes it worse. This is because the waste stems from software memory management, which allocates available resources at the allocation level, and to prevent this from happening, another technology is needed, namely fine-grained data management. This is not provided by DirectStorage, but will have to be built into the graphical API itself, of course with some modernization of WDDM.
So the bottom line is that at the PC level, Microsoft is bringing half of the new technologies for now, the other half, to fine-grained data management, will one day be a reality, but it is not yet known when.
