AMD Athlon 64 System:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
Albatron K8X800 Pro KT800 Motherboard
2x512MB Corsair XMS3200LL
Western Digital Raptor 36GB
Graphics cards :
Powercolor 9800 XT 256MB
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB (NV40)
Drivers Used :
NVIDIA : 60.72
ATI : Catalyst 4.4
It's worth noting at this point that the 60.72's seem to bring a hefty performance increase to the 5950. Whilst the 5950 was already a quick card, the new drivers seem to improve on this and at the same time deliver excellent image quality. In particular, the 6800's IQ was fantastic, easily a match for ATI's cards which is definitely a first in the recent years.
ATI's Catalyst 4.4 would appear to be a little slower across the majority of tests than previous incarnations, image quality does appear to have increased though across all the resolutions and tests.
NVIDIA drivers were left at the default setting of Quality. ATI's drivers were also left as default with the sliders at the quality settings for Open GL and Direct3D.
