FTR I'm coming from the 1st 21:9 that was released to the public: an IPS LG 34UC97‑S 3440x1440@60Hz.
I'm calibrating my monitors using:
http://photographerusa.com/screencheck/
https://www.photofriday.com/info/calibrate
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
Nothing fancy, but it does the job.
The good:
You can disable all the leds, even the power-on one on the side
The box is huge, I don't think anything can happen to the monitor during transportation, it's massively shielded on all sides
GSync is amazing, worth the $250 cost in the price range of those monitors.
100Hz is amazing too, almost as much difference between 60Hz and 100Hz than between 30Hz and 60Hz. Even on the desktop, mouse cursor, windows, scrolling, everything is so smooth! I guess I'm the kind who'd benefit from 144Hz...
Everything is high quality: plastics, but also a lot of metal parts, which are all super heavy, solid and nicely done (stand, vesa bracket, bezel)
The bezel is thin, so thin that I almost could not put back my Logitech HD Pro webcam without hiding a few pixels, I managed to do it with a little tweaking
The blacks are black, coming for the LG, pretty old IPS now, it's cool to play at night with the dark parts being less grey, it's still grey though. Just not as bad.
The colors start changing at a 45 degrees view angle, which mean there is no issue at all for those who were scared about viewing different colors on the side of a 21:9 VA panel.
The buttons and OSD are easy, responsive and fast. I can switch the input in just 2 clicks: so fast! (compared to the LG)
The monitor is factory set to 100Hz contrary to what's been said. When you plug it in Windows, it shows the 50, 60, 85 and 100Hz mode in the official resolution, no need to bring up any custom resolution or to tweak anything. But if you don't change the resolution, Windos will pick the 60Hz when plugged in the 1st time.
It's very fast to power it on/off/switch input, you can even disable the hp/gsync logo at boot time.
No dead pixel, not much ghosting (again, I'm coming from 60Hz), pretty uniform grayish black compared to my previous screen
The monitor has all needed cables included: 1 x usb3, 1 DP and 1 HDMI, all pretty high quality
The included vesa mount is solid and black, nothing exceptional but it does the job.
No scratch, I could remove the stickers without any issue.
On the UFO Ghosting Test, you get a little black shadow at the default response time (3 on a scale on 1 to 6). But when set to 4 (out of 6) the black shadow is no more and the 3 UFOs look the same.
The curve is good, it's more pronounced than on the LG, nothing wrong about it, it's not too much.
The bad:
The default calibration is not good, at all. Way too bright and way too washed out. I guess it's setup for stores or to blow you out with bright colors.
The Omen logo in the back is the only sign of gaming design, too bad as the rest is pretty clean, but that's a personal taste and some people might like it.
The "gaming" mode and "tweak" modes, e.g. color modes, adaptive contrast, dark boost, ... are getting in the way of a nice and clean picture IMO. But you can disable all this stuff.
If I move my head a little off-center (e.g. 20 degs), the colors are fine, but the black become a little more grey, not a big deal as it looks like an IPS but it's still noticeable in my white-on-black text editor and console shells It's more noticeable if I move up and down, than if I move left and right.
The power brick is huge, literally the size of a brick
Unable to run it over 100Hz, I get a black screen at 101Hz. There might be some protection mechanism. I was not able to run my old monitor above 60Hz neither, so maybe I'm doing something wrong, or I'm just unlucky.
Untested:
I did not bother trying the included arm, I directly used the Vesa one, so I can't say if it can stay to the top.
TLDR; I'm fulfilled for a few years and my next upgrade will have to be a 21:9 144Hz+HDR at least. For people who want the best of the best available right now, it's the one as you get a great panel, great colors, great blacks, and you don't get the greys of an IPS. But I'm pretty sure the AOC AG352UCG might be almost as good for $300 less money.
This review is by no mean accurate, objective or professional. I'm just a customer spreading the things I wish I would have known before ordering the monitor. If you don't like this review, wait for something more professional from other people and forget what you've seen here
